The Millers are on the road again in league action this Saturday to face seasoned Southern League side Bedford Town at the Eyrie.
Bedford, who were competing in the Conference South as recently as 2007, will be desperate to return the club to its former glory days. And last season they were on track to completing that finished in 4th place and making the playoffs only to learn they couldn’t mathematically make promotion even if they won due to a new one-off ruling.
Form
Yo-yoing form could never be more appropriate to sum up North Leigh that it is now. Win one, lose one, win one, lose one. Our last 7 league fixtures have followed this pattern and Manager Craig Dore will be hoping his side can string a few wins together with how close things are shaping up in the table. What will be music to the Millers fans is the new arrivals of Kidlington captain Lewis Gabbidon and ex-Manager Julian McCalmon to the team.
Hosts Bedford started the season as strong as they finished 2018/19 and looked to be an absolute shoe-in for the playoffs again. But things have gone from good to bad to worse for the Eagles who have picked up just 4 league points in their last 10 fixtures and sit rock bottom of the league’s form guide. Recent losses to Yaxley, Thame United and even St Neots Town are definitely cause for concern for Bedford changed manager last week when Nathan Abbey finally stepped down.
Last Time We Met
North Leigh 0 - 2 Bedford Town, Saturday 14th September 2019
Bedford Town bested the Millers at Eynsham Park in the season with a 2-0 victory on a warm sunny afternoon in West Oxfordshire.
Goals from Callum Milne on the stroke of half time and Joe Joe Steele after the hour mark helped the Eagles end a four-game winless streak seeing them move back into the top five.
The real disappointment for the home team was not finding the net having scored in all previous 7 league and cup fixtures (18 goals).
Did You Know?
Bedford Town re-founded in 1898 following a six year league absence when the club was without a home stadium and dissolved in 1982. Originally forming in 1908 as well, Bedford has a huge amount of former history. Perhaps the most incredible came from the 1955-56 season when, as a Southern League side, they beat Football League opposition Watford 3-2 in the 2nd round of the FA Cup. Even more incredible was this earned a 3rd round tie against the mighty Arsenal in which they narrowly lost 2-1 in what would have been one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history.
