It’s an exciting away trip to take on league giants Corby Town at their beautiful Steel Park stadium in game week 25 of the BetVictor Southern League.
The 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at Eynsham Park back in October was definitely not what we would have wanted but a bumper crowd of 206 was one of the highlights of the season. Over 40 players going back to the 1970’s came down to celebrate our ex-players day sharing plenty of incredible stories.
But the defeat was a huge improvement on last season’s 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Steelmen. A clear sign of the steps in the right direction that the club is taking.
Form
North Leigh: W L L W L
Saturday’s victory gave a much needed boost to the team after back to back losses to Biggleswade and Yaxley. Despite the narrow 2-1 scoreline, the Millers dominated very large parts of the game and were nearly made to rue early missed chances. Man of the match Scott Isherwood was a very welcome addition to the side with the back four looking the most confident they have all season. Craig Dore will be desperate to see their fantastic home record continue as a win would move us up to 8th place.
Corby Town: L D W D L
After an incredibly commanding start to the season going unbeaten for their first 11 games, the side are now experiencing a major stall in their campaign. The Steelmen have won just one of their last 5 league fixtures with losses to both Barton Rovers and Biggleswade last time out. But for a team who used to compete in the Conference, and still reaching attendances in excess of 450, battling them on their own turf will always make a for a challenging match.
Last Time We Met
Saturday 19th October 2019
North Leigh 0 - 3 Corby Town
Corby came into the fixture on the back of 5 straight league wins and got to work early going 1-0 up through Stephen Diggin’ on 18 minutes.
Corby picked up a 2nd right before half time with last season’s league golden boot winner Jordan Crawford scoring from outside the box. A fast start to the 2nd half then secured all three points for the Steelemen making it 3-0 after 48 minutes.
But despite their best efforts, the visitors couldn’t not dampen the Millers mood as we welcomed our biggest home attendance for 3 years.

Did You Know?
The Steelmen, a nickname that derives from the old steelworks located in Corby, once reached the 3rd round of the FA Cup way back in 1965. A hard fought 1-0 victory over Luton Town set up a competition record against then Division Two behemoths Plymouth Argyle. Although there was a cup ending 6-0 defeat, incredible history was made for the club and the end of the season saw the club apply for Football League status which was declined.
