Match Preview

Edward Martin28 Feb 2020 - 12:07

It’s a 3rd home game on the bounce this Saturday (29th Feb) as we welcome AFC Dunstable to Eynsham Park in game week 26 of the BetVictor Southern League.

The two sides met for the first time last season after we switched to the South Central Division and in all three meetings to date, the Bedfordshire-based club have come out on top every time.

Form

North Leigh: W W L L W

Last Saturday’s fantastic victory against playoff sitting Aylesbury United was perhaps one of the highlights of the season and the best defensive performance we’ve seen for a long time. The win meant the Millers extended their home unbeaten run to 7 games, our longest since December 2014, dropping just 2 points from a possible 21. Henry Landers looked to be back at his best assisting both goals and a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Adam North is beginning to build excitement going into the final third of the season.

AFC Dunstable: L L L L L

The visitors are in stark contrast to the Millers with their recent form showing a lowly zero points from their last five league fixtures. A very strong start to the season saw the OD’s comfortably up in the playing spots, even occupying 1st place for three weeks. But for some reason they have lost their mojo and have since dropped to 14th. Dunstable are now 26 points off league leaders Halesowen who thrashed them 4-1 last time out at Creasey Park. But results only tend to tell half the story and having already seen the better of the Millers once this season, this clash will be far from a walk in the park.

Last Time We Met

Saturday 9th November 2019

AFC Dunstable 4 - 3 North Leigh

The Millers just ran out of time falling short of a brilliant comeback attempt closing a three goal gap at 3-0 and 4-1 to within touching distance at the final whistle..

Henry Landers and Callum McNish were both on the scoresheet alongside powerhouse Tyriq Hunte who scored his 8th and final goal for North Leigh before his transfer to Chalfont St. Peters.

Hunte’s goal in the 85th minute made for an exhilarating final few minutes in which North Leigh’s sheer determination earned an equaliser but Landers’ final attempt in injury time hit the woodwork.

Did You Know?

AFC Dunstable changed its name in 2004 having been originally founded as Old Dunstablians. The club was named after the Dunstable Grammar School which many of the players were former pupils. The school closed 10 years prior to the club’s establishment when Bedfordshire adopted the comprehensive education system. The modern successor to the grammar school was Manshead School educating pupils from 13-18 years old and this became their location for home games until 1994. They moved to a new sports facility in Totternhoe with the new ground allowing them to join the South Midlands League.
