The Millers have a very quick turn around as they are straight back in league action at Eynsham Park tonight. This time we welcome Peterborough-based Yaxley in a rearranged fixture from the end of September.
Yaxley, who competed at step 4 for the 1st time in their entire history last season, finished 11th in the Division One Central last season. After a brilliant first season picking up 49 points in the league, they also enjoyed a strong FA Trophy run.
Form
Last Saturday's emphatic 4-2 victory against Barton Rovers made a clear statement of North Leigh's intent to the rest of the league and with as many as 4 games in hand, this Christmas run-up could make or break our season. The win, our first at home since August Bank Holiday, means its 4 league wins in the last 6 games.
Yaxley manager Andy Furnell will be hoping that their back-to-back league losses will just be a blip on the Cuckoo's season. Having collected 12 points from the previous 6 games, last weekend's 1-0 loss to Bedworth United and the 3-2 loss to Welwyn Garden City the week before will certainly be fresh on the player's minds coming into the match.
A win for the visitors would propel them up to a comfortable 12th, a win for the Millers though would jump them up to an impressive 7th and still with multiple games in hand. All eyes will be on the result tonight.
Previous Encounter
North Leigh 3 - 3 Yaxley, Saturday 16th February 2019
The Millers picked up a much-needed point against playoff contenders Yaxley in a hard-fought 6-goal thriller at Eynsham Park.
18-year-old Henry Landers was the star on the day with a brace (racking up his 6th goal in 4 games) and scoring a unanimously voted Goal of the Season with a knuckleball free-kick into the top corner from 32-yards out.
The ever-reliable super striker George Seacole was also on the score sheet.
Did You Know?
In the 1980's Yaxley FC experienced multiple name changes due to sponsorship deals 1st becoming Coalite Yaxley in 1986 and then Clarksteel Yaxley in 1990. Unfortunately for the Cuckoo's, the new names didn't bring with it any good fortune as they were expelled from the Eastern Counties League as their Middleton Road ground did not meet the league's requirements. Entering bank into the Huntingdonshire League in 1993 they became just Yaxley FC once more.
